Lempuyang

Lempuyang Temple is one of Bali’s oldest and most highly regarded temples, on par with Besakih (aka the ‘mother temple’ of Bali). It is also believed to predate the majority of Hindu temples on the island. Definitely a highlight on any travel itinerary, for the fit and adventurous, as the main temple lies at 1,175m above sea level, up on the peak of the namesake Mount Lempuyang.

The heights are reachable via a steep staircase of over 1,700 steps, with attractions along the way including several other temples and hordes of grey long-tailed macaques that inhabit the surrounding cool mountain forests.

UJUNG WATER PALACE + WHITE SAND BEACH + CHOCOLATE FACTORY

Taman Ujung to the southeast of Karangasem (Amlapura) is another water palace built in 1909 as a relaxation and recreation palace by the then King of Karangasem. It was largely destroyed by the eruption of Mount Agung in 1963, damaged again by an earthquake in 1979, and has not been restored on the same scale as Tirta Gangga. You do get a sense of how charming it must have been in the old days.

The palace holds three large pools. In the middle of the pool, there is the main building named Gili Bale, connected to the edge of the pool by a bridge. The Palace is also a famous spot for those romantic selfies or portraits, if you are here in your honeymoon for example.

You’ll find a tranquil and chilled atmosphere here, which makes it a lovely stop on your exploration tour of the most Southeastern tip of Bali. We actually integrate Ujung Water Palace in a full day tour including also several stops on the way to allow you to take unforgettable landscape shots such as at Kutumanak Village.

After a 45min. stop in Ujung, we will take you to White Sand Beach for a few hours of sheer fun in the ocean and a delicious lunch right on the beach. Two extra stops are planned for the day: Chocolate Factory (a lovely spot where you get to taste Bali made chocolate as well as experience a very special swing) and we’ll also stop at the most popular view points above the Unesco classified rice fields.

TIRTA GANGGA

Imagine a lovely maze of pools and fountains surrounded by a lush garden and stone carvings and statues. The centerpiece of the palace is an eleven-tiered fountain, and there are many beautiful carvings and statues adorning the gardens. This is a great spot to unwind and it has a real atmosphere of old Bali. Hence it has become a very a popular excursion from the nearby coastal resort town of Amed.

We always recommend our guests to end the tour of the gardens with a refreshing dip in one of the natural spring fed pools. That alone is already worth the stop. If you come with kids, they will undoubtedly love this part. For less than a dollar per person, they’ll get to enjoy unforgettable water splashing fun with the local kids. If you prefer a more relaxed style, you can easily opt for a calmer area to bathe in or even do some laps… Definitely one of our favorite things to do around Amed.

The area around Tirta Gangga holds some stunning Unesco classified rice paddy terraces. Those postcard pictures of Bali rice terraces, which you have all seen, are usually from photographs taken here.

Our Half Day Tour includes: visit to Tirta Gangga (and time for a swim), a stop at the best viewpoints to see the Unesco classified rice fields, and a break at a traditional Silver Smith shop in Budakeling village.

BESAKIH, THE MOTHER TEMPLE

Besakih Temple, known as Bali’s ‘Mother Temple’ for over 1.000 years. It is the most important, the largest and holiest temple of Hindu religion in Bali. Perched nearly 1000 meters up on the southwestern slopes of Mount Agung, Besakih is an artistic and unique complex. It comprises at least 86 temples, which include the main Pura Penataran Agung. All this is designed to lead the spiritual person upward and closer to the mountain, which is considered sacred.

Breathtaking and scenic rice paddies, hills, mountains, streams, and more surround Besakih. A series of eruptions of Mount Agung in 1963, which killed approximately 1,700 people, also threatened Besakih. The lava flows missed the temple complex by mere meters. The Balinese people regard the saving of the temple as miraculous, and a signal from the Gods that they wished to demonstrate their power but not destroy the monument that the Balinese had faithfully erected.

GITGIT WATERFALL (NORTH BALI)

We offer a tour that combines four very popular "must see’s" in North Bali: Git Git Waterfall – Bedugul - Lake Bratan – Jatiluwih.

Gitgit Waterfall is a popular waterfall located on the north of Bali, not too far from Lovina. The waterfall is about 35 meters highs and is surrounded by tropical trees. The falls are a popular tourist destination in Bali for the bridge walkway and the cool water. The Gitgit waterfall consists of several waterfalls with different shapes and heights. Halfway along the way the scene changes and on both sides you can see coffee and clove trees. It is a refreshing experience to walk in this quiet area where the birds take turns to sing. The air is cool and gradually gets colder when you approach the waterfall. A short distance from the waterfall, the fine water spray will cool your body. Sometimes the atmosphere will become misty.

Bedugul is the name used to cover a large area of the central highlands of Bali around the villages of Bedugul itself, Candikuning, Pancasari, Pacung and Wanagiri (amongst others). This is an area of great natural beauty. The focus point of the area centres on the three crater lakes of Bratan (Beratan), Buyan and Tamblingan, and the nearby botanical gardens. The whole area is at an altitude of 700 meters or more, with the tallest mountain peaks above 2,000 meters, and it can be distinctly chilly here.

Things to visit in the area: Bali Botanical Gardens – Jatiluwih (a startlingly beautiful area of verdant, terraced rice paddies nestled in the shadow of Mount Batukaru) - Munduk Waterfall (these falls are impressive and really roar in the wet season. A spot that is little visited, despite being perhaps the most impressive accessible falls on the whole island.)

Pura Ulun Danu Bratan (Lake Bratan Temple): After Tanah Lot, this is perhaps the most photographed temple on the island and is certainly one of the iconic images of Bali. The temple sits on the western shore of Lake Bratan and it can give the illusion of actually floating on the water. Built in 1633, the temple is devoted to Ida Batara Dewi Ulun Danu, goddess of the lake. A beautiful temple in a truly stunning setting.
